Biography

John Stirling of Kippendavie. Second son of Patrick [Anthony Cooke shows William] Stirling, 4th of Kippendavie and his wife Margaret Douglas. In Jamaica in 1776 when he inherited the Keir entail on the death of his elder brother Patrick. Married Mary, second daughter of William Graham of Airth and Ann Stirling of Ardoch, 30/04/1781. Seven sons and six daughters, including William (1787-1862) and Charles of Gargunnock, partners in Stirling, Gordon and Co. (both of whom q.v.).
