Biography

Lucius Tucker of St Mary, Jamaica, whose will was proved in 1792. Married the niece of Daniel Munro of Crescent estate in St Mary - Tucker's only child Frances Monro Tucker was a trust beneficiary of a trust set in place in 1766 entitling her to the profits of Crescent estate. No marriage for Lucius Tucker has been found.

Late of Jamaica but now of Great Bruckhill [sic] in Buckinghamshire in 1766 when he was guardian to James Gray Tucker and Henry William Tucker (shown in his will as his brothers). He must have been absent from Jamaica between 1766 and 1770 when Crescent estate appeared in the Accounts Produce. Lucius Tucker of Brickhill in Buckinghamshire was the owner of unclaimed dividends in the 3 per cent consols in 1783. Late of Jamaica but now living in Princes Street, Cavendish Square, London, in 1787 when he wrote a codicil to his will. Burial of Lucius Tucker 07/06/1792 at St Marylebone.

His daughter Fanny Monro Tucker was baptised in St Clement Danes, Middlesex, 17/05/1772, 'daughter of Lucius Tucker Esq. and Fanny his Wife, niece of the late Daniel Monro of the Island of Jamaica.' Frances Monro Tucker married Charles Beckford Long in Marylebone in 1795.

Lucius Tucker of St Mary, Jamaica.

All my capital stock of £10,000 in the 3 per cent consols to Edward Long and George Ramsay both of Great Britain, John Jarrett of Trelawney, Jamaica, Thomas Murphy of St Andrew, Jamaica in trust for the several uses hereinafter mentioned.

All the rest and residue of my estate real and personal to the same trustees to sell the whole of my residuary personal estate (my slaves excepted) and to invest the proceeds in stock. The trustees to take the yearly dividends of my captial money and the profits of my real estate and from time to time pay the same to my daughter Fanny Monro Tucker for her own sole and separate use. After her death the whole property to the children and grandchildren of Fanny Monro Tucker in equal parts shares so that the grandchildren shall have only so much thereof as his or their father or mother if living would be entitled to. Should she die without lawful issue then £9,000 to my brother James Grey Tucker and £1,000 to my god-daughter Jane Catharine Long, daughter of my friend Edward Long. Likewise should Fanny Monro Tucker die without issue then my real estate to my brother James Grey Tucker and the children of my brother William Henry Tucker, my sister Ann Fergusson (wife of Henry Fergusson of St Anne, Jamaica) and the children of my sister Jane Gallimore Graves and my nephew Matthew Gallimore and niece Fanny[?] Gallimore (son and daughter of my deceased sister Judith Gallimore, late wife of William Gallimore of Trelawney, planter).

Whereas I am possessed or otherwise entitled unto certain claims and demands upon Crescent plantation in the parish of St Mary, the property of my said daughter as assignee of a certain decree in the Court of Chancery of Jamaica and also as assignee of a certain indenture of mortgage as well as other demands are those hereintobefore mentioned and by me intended to be excepted as aforesd now I do declare my will and the trusts of and concerning the same to be that my said trustees shall from time to time pay the annual interest of such demands to my daughter for her own sole and separate use. If my daughter shall die without living issue and without having done any act to bar the limitations or remainders over the said Crescent plantation to the heirs of Nicholas Bourke deceased created by the will of Daniel Monro late of the parish of St Mary, Jamaica, bearing the date 14/07/1766 then Crescent plantation will go to Thomas Bourke and Edmund Fearon Bourke, sons of Nicholas Bourke deceased.

Edward Long, George Ramsay, John Jarrett, Thomas Murphy and Thomas Bourke to be executors and guardians of my infant daughter.

Codicil dated 05/06/1787. Lucius Tucker of St Mary, Jamaica, now residing in Princes Street, Cavendish Square, Middlesex. £2,000 of my £10,000 in the 3 per cent annuities to my friends Edward Long of Wimpole Street and Edward Beeston Long of East Barnet upon trust to pay the interest and dividends to Elizabeth Grey, a mulatto girl now about the age of 4 years old during her natural life and after her death the sum to go to her children share and share alike.
