Biography

Daughter of William Finlason who owned Mount Zion estate in St Elizabeth, Jamaica. Married James Buchanan of Glasgow in Islington, London, 07/08/1819. She appears to have inherited enslaved people from her father, very likely settled on Mount Zion.

  1. Mary Finlason of St Elizabeth, Jamaica, who was baptised into the Countess of Huntingdon's Connexion in Clerkenwell, 23/02/1806, daughter of William and Mary Frances Finlason. Living at Sidney Cottage, 3 Southampston Street, Lambeth, in 1851, age 54, born Jamaica, annuitant, with her son James R. Buchanan age 25, student, born St Brides, and daughter Elizabeth age 21, born Camberwell. In the same household were her niece [?] Finlason, age 24 born Jamaica, her nephew Jas. B. Finlason, age 15 born Jamaica, and her grandson Wm J. Courtney age 1 born Camberwell.
