James Gordon of Antigua and Moor Place

Uncle of James Brebner-Gordon (q.v.) and great-uncle of James Gordon (d. 1822, q.v.), whom he described in his will as James Brebner the younger.

  1. Will of James Gordon of Moor Place proved 26/04/1768. He left Moor Place in Hertfordshire (which he had purchased c. 1749) and Wickhams and Barters in Antigua in trust for his nephew James Brebner the elder and then James Brebner the younger; and he left his plantation called Gales or Table Hill in trust for his nephew Francis Grant.

  2. James Gordon had leased Crabbs and Martins estates from Col. Valentine Morris in 1739 for 16 years and renewed the lease for them with Valentine Morris II in 1749 to run for 10 years from 1754. In 1765 he obtained judgement against Morris and was assigned the Martin's estate.
