Biography

  1. James Witch and his wife Francis had a son, Francis John, baptised in Hanover, Jamaica, 13/02/1808. Frances Witch, wife of James Witch, was buried in Hanover, 13/02/1808. The administration of Frances Rebecca Witch, late of the island of Jamaica, deceased, was granted to James Witch, late the husband, 09/02/1815, effects under £800.

  2. James Witch, widower, and Ann Amelia Drummond Deady, widow, both of this parish, were married 22/08/1820 in St Sepulchre's Holborn. The marriage notice in the European Magazine and London Review identifies James Witch as "Esq., of Jamaica".

  3. James Witch is identified as "an absentee from this island" in the slave registers of 1823 and 1826. However, Ann Amelia Witch was buried in Clarkenwell, London, 24/12/1826 (age 41) and James Witch registered enslaved people on his own behalf in Hanover in 1829 and 1832.
