???? - 1824

Biography

Resident slave-owner on Jamaica. Died c. 1824.

  1. Alexander MCallum esq of the parish of Hanover married Margaret Kennedy of Westmoreland, spinster, in Westmoreland, by licence, 03/09/1810.

  2. Will of Alexander McCallum of Hanover [made in 1819] proved 11/09/1824. He left his wife Margaret an annuity of £500 p.a. sterling, or £250 currency p.a, if she remarried: if she survived her second husband without issue the annuity was to recommence at £500 sterling. He left each of his two daughters Margaret Isabella and Alexandrine £10,000. In a codicil of 1820 he noted the death of Alexandrine and diverted her legacy and share of his residuary estate to the child with whom his wife was then pregnant. His daughter Margaret Isabella McCallum (1818-82) married George Webster of Forfar, Writer of the Signet (1800-82): their daughter Flora Annie Steel was a traveller and writer in India with an entry in the ODNB.
