James Rowe of Redland

Biography

Owner of Bagdale estate and Fullerswood Pen in St Elizabeth, Jamaica. Son of William Rowe of Torrington, brother of Hon. William Rowe and father of James John Rowe (all of whom q.v.).

  1. Will of James Rowe of Redland Gloucestershire [made in 1810] was proved 29/11/1821. He left in trust (his trustees included his brother William Rowe of St Elizabeth, Francis George Smyth of Jamaica but then residing at Brighton and Joseph Jeans Durbin of Bath) his property in Jamaica, subject to the settlement of his debts and the payment of an annuity of £300 p.a. to his wife Louisa Philippa over and above the £500 p.a. due to her under their marriage settlement, for the benefit of his 'first son' James John Rowe.

  2. Probably the Hon. James Rowe, Custos of St Elizabeth, who was buried at Torrington Castle, 21/01/1821 aged 52. Augustus Durbin Rowe esquire aged 22 was buried there 25/01/1822 (perhaps James' son).
