Jonathan Harrison

Jonathan Harrison of Lewes Sussex, former slave-trader and partner with Joseph Timperon and William Peatt Litt (both of whom q.v.), and father of John Joseph Harrison and William Harrison (q.v.): these two sons both themselves became partners in the mid-1820s in the West India merchant firm of Litt and Harrisons, which failed in 1831. Jonathan Harrison by virtue of his role in partnership with Joseph Timperon and William Peatt Litt also acted as trustee under an indenture for three estates in Jamaica owned by Thomas John Parker senior (d. 1823).

1. Will of Jonathan Harrison [of Gower Street in the parish] of St Giles and formerly of Lewes in the county of Sussex proved 04/11/1830. In the will he referred to his estate in Sussex known as 'Fridges and Shoulders' [sic] or Grantham in the parish of Chailey, which he authorised his executors to sell. He left his real and personal property equally among his children namely Margaret (wife of Robert Nelson), John Joseph, William, George and Sophia, subject to deductions to reflect (1) the £1000 he had already advanced to Robert Nelson (2) two amounts of £5000 each he had advanced under an indenture of 1826 to his sons John Joseph and William to fund them in their partnership with William Peatt Litt. He had also made a loan of a further £10000 to Litt and Harrisons which he wanted to be repaid starting from 1839. .
