Biography

  1. Dr Spence, Montego Bay, was named as owner of an enslaved person held in Westmoreland Workhouse, 1816; Dr Spence, Hanover, was named as owner of an enslaved person held in St Ann’s Workhouse, 1827.

  2. George Spence and Rebecca Smith, both of Hanover, were married there 30/07/1791; Mrs Rebecca Spence, widow of George Spence, esq, was living at Richmond Lodge in 1818.

  3. Elizabeth, youngest daughter of the late Dr George Spence of Hanover, married Robert C. Walcott at Richmond Lodge in Westmoreland, 12/03/1818. Robert Claver Walcott esq eldest son of the late William Grant Walcott esq [q.v.] and Elizabeth Spence spinster youngest daughter of the late Dr George Spence practitioner of physic &c both of the parish of Westmoreland were married by licence 12/30/1818."
