Biography

George Howel, died at Cote Park Bristol 07/01/1825, formerly of Jamaica, where he was a Master of Chancery, Secretary to the Board of Accounts, and a member of the Honourable House of Assembly.

  1. Will of George Howell or Howel [late of Jamaica] of Westbury Gloucester proved 01/02/1825. In the will he provided for his cousin Ann Windey [sp?] and his dear daughter-in-law Lucy, widow of Rev. Walter Johnson, but left the bulk of his estate including Jamaica property and enslaved people to his 'son-in-law', the son of his late dear wife, Thomas Spencer of the City of London, whose firm was identified later in the will as Messrs Thomas Spencer and Co., who held some of Howell's money.

  2. The effects of George Howel of Jamaica were sworn by his executors under £25,000.
