1797 - 1832

Claimant or beneficiary

Biography

Daughter of Joseph Lowe, who left her just over £10,000 under his will of 1827 but no 'slave-property: she was unmarried at the time he made his will and he left his two estates and the enslaved people upon them to his two married daughters. She married shortly before his will was proved.

  1. Jane Haggatt Lowe was probably born in 1797 (baptised 18 May 1797 in St James, Barbados). She married John Alleyne Holder in St Michael 03/09/1827. She had three children: John Alleyne (baptised St George 1829), Julie (baptised St John 1830) and Henry Lowe (baptised St John 1832). She was buried in St John, Barbados, 19/10/1832 age 32 [sic.].

  2. A trustee of the Marriage Settlement between Jane and John Alleyne Holder was James Holder Alleyne (q.v.). He also acted as guardian to the children: see biog notes on him for further details.
