Alexander Inness

???? - 1830

Biography

Alexander Inness or Innes, London merchant and husband of Mary Inness (q.v.) and father of John William Inness (also q.v.), and former mortagee (with Coll Turner, q.v.) of Kings Bay on Tobago, as well as apparently holding a mortgage on Kingstown Park in St Vincent. In 1817 he reportedly paid £10,000 for Coll Turner's property in St Vincent, Tobago and Antigua.

  1. Will of Alexander Innes of [Guilford Street] St Pancras Middlesex [made in 1824] proved 23/10/1830. Under the will he left an annuity of £300 p.a. to his wife Mary, as well as the lease of his house on Guilford Street. He left £1000 each to his niece and nephew, the children of his late sister Mary McLachlan, and an annuity of £6 p.a. to his relation Jane Innes of Las[s]wade near Edinburgh. He instructed that the annuity of £100 p.a. payable to Ann Aiden [?] of Brighthelmstone under the will of Coll Turner be continued from his [Innes'] estate after his death. He gave £100 to his godson Thomas William Carwardine, and £25 to the poor of Great Baddow in Essex in recognition of his long attachment to the parish. He gave to his dear son John William Innes all real estates 'as are now vested in me by way of mortgage' as well as all the rest of his real and personal property.
