George Booth

Biography

Owner of Chesterfield estate in Jamaica, which he bequeathed to Henry Parker (q.v., died 1787). He was either the father-in-law of Henry Parker or the uncle of Henry Parker or of his wife - as Booth's will leaves a legacy to his niece Milborah [sic] Maxwell, mother of Henry Maxwell and George Booth Maxwell, and Henry Parker's will leaves a legacy to his nephews Henry Maxwell and George Booth Maxwell.

George Booth was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 600 acres of land in St Elizabeth, 376 acres in Clarendon and 294 acres in Vere, total 1270 acres.

George Booth of Vere, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1770. Slave-ownership at probate: 236 of whom 121 were listed as male and 115 as female. 37 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £28628.85 Jamaican currency of which £14725.25 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £0 currency cash, £6763.53 currency debts and £611.25 currency plate.
