Biography

Renn Hampden (given as Hamden in the compensation records), Barbados slave-owner, MP for Great Marlow 1842-1847. His identification as the owner of Balls is secure [see below] but his co-ownership with other estates with John Hampden has yet to be clarified.

  1. Death "On the 8th ult., in the Island of Barbadoes, Renn Hampden, Esq., formerly of the Manor-house, Little Marlow, Bucks, and M.P. for the borough of Great Marlow."

  2. Joseph Robert Lumley, Esq., of Harleston, Northamptonshire, [marriage to] to Sarah, relict of Renn Hampden, Esq., of Balls, in the island of Barbadoes, and late M. P. for Marlow, Bucks.
