John McKinnon Campbell

Biography

Son of the Rev. John McKinnon of Kilmodan and beneficiary in 1805 under the will of James Campbell of Grenada and Tobago (q.v.). The wife of John McKinnon Campbell, Christina Campbell nee Fyffe, assigned to the London solicitor Alexander Macdougall her counterclaim under her marriage settlement for the compensation due on Invera and Argyle in Tobago. The original claim was by Daniel H. Rucker as executor of Jas Campbell.

  1. Will of John McKinnon Campbell of Ormaig Argyle proved 28/03/1817. Letters of administration for John McKinnon Campbell late of Ormaig who died in October 1816 granted 26/06/1865 to Francis de Rosaz the administrator of James McKinnon Campbell, the brother, the residuary legatee (who himself died 16/11/1822 at Kilmoden[sic]), effects under £100.

  2. In 1827 there was an advertisement in the Edinburgh Gazette for the creditors of James Mackinnon Campbell of Ormaig in the county of Argyle and of Argyle and Inveraw, Island of Tobago. In 1846 the Edinburgh Gazette carried advertisements for the creditors of both James McKinnon Campbell and John McKinnon Campbell.

  3. The Petition to HM King George III for the establishment of Tain Royal Academy lists John Campbell of Tobago as being a subscriber of £50 and upwards towards "defraying the expense of erecting building and endowing an Academy".
