Biography

The attorney to the executor and executrix of Benjamin Kingston claimed the compensation for Walton Hall in British Guiana, which was paid instead to the administratrix of the mortgagee.

  1. Benjamin Kingston esq. of Walton Hall Demerara had married Alicia, daughter of J. Saunders esq. of Downes House, Eling Hants in 1826. Alicia Kingston nee Saunders must have remarried, for in 1851 Alicia Phipps aged 40 born Eling Hants was living with her husband Lt Col. Paul Phipps, [his] step-daughter Alicia M. Kingston aged 20 [sic] also born Eling Hants and two other children at 4 Prospect Place Southampton.

  2. Benj. Kingston was identified as one of the brothers of Robert Kingston (q.v.) of Demerara in the latter's will, proved 02/0/1816.

  3. Will of Benjamin Kingston of Downs [sic] House near Southampton proved 25/05/1829. In the will he left £500 each to his natural children (Thomas, Mary, Robert Benjamin and John) with his late housekeeper Madelin Robson, to whom he left an annuity of 1200 guilders. The rest of his estate he left to his wife Alicia and infant son Augustus John Kingston, and in the event of their deaths to his 'affectionate brother' John Kingston now residing at Cambridge Terrace Regents Park (whom we believe to have been John Kingston of Copthall Chambers q.v.).
