Biography

Counterclaimant as a judgment creditor for the Dumfries estate in St James, the compensation for which was paid into the colonial court.

  1. In 1841, Ann Carr Gordon aged 60 was living with John Gordon, barrister aged 31 and his family at Duke Street, St Margaret's Westminster. In 1817, she had registered her 'own' enslaved people in St James.

  2. In the 1820 slave register, William Fairclough registered 27 enslaved people by purchase from Francis Gordon attorney to Ann Carr Gordon Owner, registered in St James 1817. Presumably the debt stemmed from this transaction. Fairclough died soon after.

  3. Ann Carr Gordon, age 66, relict of the late William Gordon, died 19/02/1849 and was buried the same day in St John's Church, Circular Road, Calcutta.

  4. Ann Carr Mowatt married William Gordon in St James, Jamaica, 20/12/1806. Three children baptised to them in St James, 1809-1812.
