Biography

Claimed with Frederick Woodbridge (q.v.) as owners for the compensation for the enslaved people on an estate on Dominica inferred to have been Goodwill. The brothers reached a settlement with the counterclaimants, two trustees of an indenture of 1829, in whose name the compensation was awarded.

  1. Son of James and Dorothy Woodbridge, baptised 1794. Cricketer. Died 11/02/1863 'formerly of St Omer in France but late of 6 Porchester Square', effects under £14,000.

  2. Born 17/09/1794, Eton, matriculated Trinity Cambridge 1813 BA 1819. 'Lived near Newport Pagnell Bucks.' 'Doubtless brother of the next' [=Frederick].

  1. Pallots Baptisms Index of England 1780-1837, St Andrew Holborn 1794. London England Baptisms, Marriages and Burials 1538-1812 shows an Edward Collins Woodbridge, son of the same parents, baptised 10/05/1791 at St Olve Hart Street, but this first child must have died.

  2. Cambridge University Alumni 1261-1900, which shows his date of birth as 17/09/1794.
