Biography

Son of John Erskine of Lima and Dun-Pen (d. 1786) and Elizabeth Irving (1747-1808), daughter of James Irving the Elder of Ironshore. 

  1. 'Formerly of Bath and then of Bryanston Square Middlesex (Probate Calendar)'. He also had properties at Balthill, Forfarshire; Longhave, Aberdeenshire; and Lima Jamaica (BLG 1914). He had nine daughters but no surviving son. He was a relative of Augustus Kennedy-Erskine of Dun House Montrose who in 1883 owned 3533 acres worth £4108 p.a., chiefly in Forfarshire. Married first 1798 Elizabeth daughter of Robert Jackson of Hampton, Jamaica (his cousin) (four daughters, one son predeceased); secondly in 1810 to Elizabeth [sic] (d. 1870) daughter of Joseph Brissett of Hanover, Jamaica (five daughters). Planter of Lima estate in Jamaica. University of Glasgow (matriculated 1791). 'It is not clear how long he spent in Jamaica after his youth or if he had any other sources of income.' Left £180,000 'within province'.
