Biography

Co-owner with his brother or step-brother Henry Rodon (q.v.) of Frankfield and Crawle River estates in Jamaica. His alternative names of Smith or Rodon have not yet been explained by LBS.

  1. Will of Francis Smith, otherwise Francis Rodon [given in the will as Francis Smith Rodon,] [at present residing in Bryanston Street] St Marylebone Middlesex [made in 1836] proved 19/01/1837. He left: £500 to his brother John Rodon; £500 each to his nephews George and Paul Mackenzie of Jamaica; £1000 to his sister-in-law Mistress John Rodon and another £1000 to his nephew John Rodon [the younger]; £500 to each of his nephews Rowland Israell, Lauchlan McLean and George Rodon McLean; and £500 each to his cousins Thomas, Edward and Mary Hayle of Jamaica. He left his moiety of Frankfield and store attached thereto named Gordon to his nephew George Mackenzie, together with the service of the apprentices, and his moiety of Crawle River to his nephew Paul Mackenzie. He left the rest of his estate in trust for his four sisters and their children. In a codicil he left £1000 for the benefit of his niece Ann Mitchell Lovell.

  2. Francis Smith Rodon appears to have died in Jamaica in late 1836, aged 32.
