Biography

Awarded with his wife Margaret Halkett (q.v.) and his wife's niece from her first marriage Eliza Clare (q.v.) the compensation for four awards in St Catherine and St John in Jamaica as judgement creditors. She in isolation was also awarded the compensation for a further three awards under her first husband's name as Dame Margaret Clare, again with her niece, as owner-in-fee and trustee and executrix.

  1. Sir Hugh Halkett (1783-1863) served in the King's German Legion, fought in the Peninsular war and in 'the Waterloo campaign.' The ODNB is silent on his second marriage: he had eight children with his first wife, Emily Charlotte Burges.    

  2. Margaret Graham married Sir Michael Clare Physician General 18/3/1817 in Jamaica at Twickenham Park, the residence of Francis Graham. She married Lieut. Col. Sir Hugh Halkett late German Legion 12/7/1836 at Cromarty, when she was described as 'eldest daughter of the late Col. C.D. Graham and relict of the late Sir Michael B. Clare.'
