Biography

John Hamilton of Sundrum, son of John Hamilton of Sundrum (1739-1821) and Lillias Montgomerie (d. 1827), who was the sister of the 12th Earl of Eglington; great-nephew of Robert Hamilton of Bourtree Hill (1698-1773) and Rozelle House, who owned Pemberton Valley with his brother John (1702-1739). Together with his sister-in-law Lady Jane Montgomerie (q.v.), and her sister Lady Lillias Oswald (q.v.) and the latter's husband Richard Alex. Oswald (q.v.), John Hamilton was awarded the compensation for the Pemberton Valley estate and Boscabelle Pen, both in St Mary Jamaica.  

  1. Archibald Hamilton (q.v.), the brother of this John Hamilton and 5th son of John Hamilton of Sundrum (1739-1821) married Lady Jane Montgomerie (q.v.) and bought from her nephew, the 13th Earl, the estates of Rozelle and Glengall.
