Mary Lawrence James, daughter of Colonel John Robert James of Endeavour Jamaica by Mary Lawrence daughter of James Lawrence of Fairfield. Married William James Stevenson (Receiver-General of Jamaica, 1764-1830) in Jamaica 22/3/1796. Died Clifton, buried Cheltenham.

The William Stevenson of Bristol writing to the Commissioners of Slave Compensation on behalf of Mary Lawrence Stevenson, is almost certainly her son, later Sir William Stevenson (1804-1863), Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Mauritius 1857-1863. Sir William Stevenson's son Francis Seymour Stevenson was elected MP for Eye in 1885.
