Biography

Award shared with the Bayley family (Robert Riddell, William Kennedy, Samuel and John Diggles Bayely, all of whom q.v.) as heirs of John Russell.

  1. In 1851, James Redmayne, born Yorkshire, surgeon M.R. Med Soc Edinburgh, MRCS London aged 62 widow [sic] was living at Lower Holker Lancs with his sister [sic] Anne Russell, born Jamaica aged 56, unmarried. There may be confusion here: the passing of half the award from John Russell's estate to James Redmayne would make more sense if Anne Russell was the daughter of John Russell (which seems unlikely given Redmayne's surname) or daughter-in-law of John Russell, which appears to be ruled out by the 'unmarried' label next to her name.  It is more plausible that Anne Russelll was the sister-in-law of James Redmayne.  James Redmayne had married Jeanetta or Jeannetta Russell in Liverpool in 1809; the Lancashire Parish Clerk Online project shows him as surgeon of Liverpool and her as Jeanetta, marrying 07/02/1809 at Christ Church Hunter Street.  A daughter Alice - of James and Jennet Redmayne - was baptised at Hunter Street 06/08/1810.  The death of a James Redmayne was registered Q1 1852 at Lancaster.
