???? - 1836
Attorney in Jamaica. Deceased by 1837.
Partnership commenced 01/01/1828 between James Forsyth and J. Townson.
Will of James Forsyth of St Andrew Surrey [Jamaica] [made in 1835] proved 05/12/1840. He left his wife Mary Ann an annuity of £300 p.a., and his reputed son George Forsyth a legacy of £500 currency. His residuary heirs were his son James Forsyth and daughter Eliza Forsyth.
Related in some way to Elizabeth Forsyth who died before 1832 and who was probably the heir of George Mills of Cooper's Hill in St Andrew.
Death-date and wife's maiden name are taken from online genealogical sources; see B. W. Higman, Plantation Jamaica 1750-1850: capital and control in a colonial economy (Mona, Jamaica, University of West Indies Press, 2005) pp. 66-67 for James Forsyth as attorney in St Thomas-in-the-East for 9 properties in 1832.
Royal Gazette (Jamaica) 22/03/1828.
PROB 11/1929/107.
See estate information for Cooper's Hill.
