Biography

John Wilson absentee appears in four groups of awards: as executor of Lt Col John Campbell in St Thomas-in-the-Vale nos. 192 and 193; as owner-in-fee in Kingston no. 1834; as owner-in-fee in Manchester no. 319; and as executor of John Taylor in Port Royal no. 54. In addition John Wilson as the executor of William Robertson appears in St Andrew no. 195, for which in 1832 he was described as of the City of Kingston. This might in fact be several different men.

  1. The will of John Wilson Deputy Post Master of Kingston Jamaica [made 03/06/1850] proved 28/10/1850 appears to connect with at least some of the above claims. He appointed John Taylor of Good Hope estate in Port Royal as one of his executors and left a legacy to Dr Charles Campbell. He left £4000 to his grandson Thomas Atkinson, and mortgages over land in Cumbria and other assets worth £3200 to his sister Sarah Wilson, and £1000 each to his brother and eight other sisters.
