Biography

Widow of the Attorney-General of Jamaica (Hugo James), and party to a Chancery suit against Samuel Dare, described as a trustee for Mrs James and her children.

  1. In 1851 Amelia James aged 52 born Jamaica was living with her sister-in-law Eliza D Rees aged 61 head and Eliza's niece and nephew (Eliza D aged 21 and John aged 19), all born Jamaica, at 20 Harrington Street Regents Park St Pancras.

  2. Will of Hugo James of St Catherine Island of Jamaica proved 11/12/1835. Hugo James, appointed Attorney-General of Jamaica, married Aemilia, daughter of Samuel Jackson, Member of Council, and Elizabeth Gibbes, and had with other issue Hugh Rees James, Commission in the Punjab etc. Hugo James is shown as dying c. September 1831-March 1832, having married Amelia (Emily, Emilia) 01/07/1817.

  3. Possibly the Amelia James of Grafton Road buried at St James, St Pancras 19/11/1870 aged 74 and if so the widow whose will was proved 26/11/1870 leaving £3000.
