Biography

Awarded part of the compensation for the enslaved people on the Java estate in Manchester Jamaica after contesting the compensation with his wife Eliza Glasse, who received the other part of the money under this award.

  1. The Java estate had belonged to William Stimpson, Eliza Glasse's brother. He bequeathed her an annuity secured on the estate of £100 p.a., which was the basis of her husband's claim.  The estate itself passed to Francis Philip Glasse, the son of Francis and Eliza Glasse, who died at the time of compensation: he in turn left it to his mother. Will of Francis Philip otherwise Francis Phillip Glasse of Island of Jamaica West Indies proved 31/01/1837.

  2. Marriage of Francis Glasse Esq., and Eliza Stimpson at St Marylebone 20/10/1806. In 1841 Francis Glasse Ind[ependent] aged 50 was living at King Edward Street Southwark with Annette Glasse aged 30. In 1851 Francis Glasse aged 67 Captain halfpay born Middlesex was living at Manor Cottages Lambeth with wife Annotte or Annette aged 44.  Will of Francis Glasse Captain on half-pay British Army 18/12/1856. Letters of administration of Francis Glasse who died 25/10/1856 at Boulogne and whose will was left unadministered by Ann Adames Glasse widow the relict granted 30/11/1861, effects under £200. Francis Glasse widower had married Ann Adames at St Mary Lambeth 23/8/1853.

  3. Eliza Jane Glasse, the daughter of Francis and Eliza Glasse, married Francis Ord Marshall in St John the Evangelist Westminster 29/11/1831.
