Thomas Gillespy junior

London merchant, awarded part of the compensation for the enslaved people on Clermont estate in Trelawney as one of the executors (with Thomas Gillespy and George Harffy Longcroft, both of whom q.v.) of Charles Reynolds (q.v.), and beneficiary under his father's will of a legacy of £2000 left by Charles Reynolds to Thomas Gillespy the father.

1. Partner in Thomas Gillespy & Son (q.v.) with his father, until the latter's retirement at the end of 1831. Thomas Gillespy the father may have been the Thomas Gillespy coal-factor who became bankrupt in 1812.  

2. Will of Thomas Gillespy late of Jesmond Lodge Croydon who died 14/10/1872 proved 7/11/1872, effects under £35,000. In 1861 Thomas Gillespy, merchant contractor ship-owner aged 69 was living at Sydenham Road with children Mary 33 Charlotte 26, John Roebuck 24, Martha R 20 and Hannah 14 with 4 servants.  In 1851 he had been at 5 Woburn Place Hackney with the same 5 children plus Thomas 21, Margaret 19 and Jane 12. In 1841 he was at the same address with wife Martha and family.

T71/874 Trelawney no. 171 (which gives them as executors of 'George Reynolds'). Clermont is shown against Charles Reynolds in the 1816 Jamaica Almanac and heirs of Charles Reynolds in 1818.
