Biography

As husband of Ellen Welchman (previously Jeffrey, nee Katz), Henry Welchman attempted to intercept the part of the compensation for the enslaved people on Philadelphia in British Guiana which was paid to trustees of his wife, apparently against his wishes. Ellen Jeffery married Henry Welchman in Bethnel Green, London, in 1829. Although he was in London in 1835, nothing further has been traced in Britain of him or his wife (an Ellen Welchman widow died in British Guiana 29/04/1895).
