Biography

Brother of Rev Henry Chaplin (see Grenada claim no. 466) and the uncle of Henry Chaplin (1840-1923, q.v.) to whom he left the bulk of his property. A director of the Great Northern Railway and a 'popular' landowner and sportsman in Lincolnshire. Born 21/04/1786, died d.s.p. 31/05/1859. His brother, Thomas Chaplin, was also an MP: for Stamford, 1826-1831, 1832-1838.
