Notes

The first known mention of Barking Lodge is from the supplement to the Royal Gazette 17/08/1782: 'Kingston, August 24... Died - on Saturday last, Master Carter, son of Ambrose Carter, Esq. of Barking Lodge, St Thomas in the East...' It may be that Ambrose owned the land prior to 1782 but only named it Barking Lodge at around this time. The baptism of their son William 08/03/1777 took place at Rocky Point; Barking Lodge was subsequently described as located in Rocky Point.
