Notes

James McIntyre owned enslaved people in St Mary from at least 1817 but it's not clear he owned the land of Harmony Hall plantation at this point. In the early 1820s, John Wade and James McIntyre bought over 130 enslaved people, 50 from Thomas McLagan on Upton estate and the rest from St Andrew. They divided their joint ownership by 1826 and the enslaved people were registered to McIntyre's estate (Harmony Hall) and Wade's estate (Essex) separately. The first date at which Harmony Hall is named with a large number of enslaved people to John Wade is the almanac of 1826.

James McIntyre appears to have bought Albany estate in the early 1830s and may have moved all his enslaved people there. However, Albany already had a substantial workforce upon it in the 1820s so it's not clear whether he bought and/or sold a large number of enslaved people around this time. The 1832 slave register entry, assumed to be for Albany and Harmony Hall, gives 202 enslaved people with the increase as a result of a purchase from Dr Gordon of St Andrew.
