The plantation belonged to a fund initially set up by Bartholomy Van den Santheuvel in 1772, of which J. J. Bysterus Heemskerk was the managing director. The fund bought the plantation in 1788 from the heirs of Pieter Haley and spouse Susanna Markoe. The fund had been mortgagee for Haley and Markoe and upon Haley's death, the fund bought the plantation for its own account.
