West India merchant (Colonial - Caribbean)
Augustus Frederick Elmslie was the son of James Elmslie (q.v.) and grandson of John Elmslie (q.v.). It is not clear whether his firm was the direct successor to that of John Elmslie.
1785 - 1854
Jamaican-born widow of a prominent slave-owner; resident in Britain following the death of her husband in 1818. Accused - and acquitted - of the cruel treatment of some enslaved people whom she brought to Britain with her.

The Buff Bay plantation was a sugar estate next to the Buff Bay River, south of Charlestown in Jamaica. By 1839, the estate was 840 acres.
