Joseph Sturge and Thomas Harvey, The West Indies in 1837 (London, Hamilton, Adams, & Co., 1838) p. 206: 'The quantity of sugar has not diminshed since 1834....the hospital, a wretched and filthy building, though, from its size, capable of being improved at a small expense.'
