Joseph Sturge and Thomas Harvey, The West Indies in 1837 (London, Hamilton, Adams, & Co., 1838) pp. 291-292: 'Belvidere is a very fine estate and belongs to a French Nobleman, Count Freeman.' Late resident attorney was President of the Council; 'the present attorney also is said to be liberally disposed, while the proprietor has directed certain allowances to be curtailed.'
