With your support, we can increase access to legal education and support the next generation of lawyers.

It is crucial that the rigorous legal education that we provide at UCL Laws is accessible to talented young people, regardless of their financial resources or circumstances. Wealth should not be a determinant for access to law school and for the subsequent pathway to the legal professions. We are committed to ensuring that the doors of the legal profession are open to the brightest and best and represents the society that it is meant to serve. 

Why this matters

Financial need can be a significant barrier both for gaining access to a top institution like UCL Laws as well as to achieving successful outcomes once enrolled. Financial pressures influence which university a student chooses, how fully they engage in student life, how far they take their studies, and their subsequent choice of profession.

How your gift helps

Your gift will assist us across all our inclusive law school priorities. For example, additional funding can support our:   

• Target Law Mentoring Programme that offers much-needed support and mentoring for the university admissions process to aspiring law students from Widening Participation backgrounds.
• Other Widening Participation initiatives, including summer schools for pre-University students.
• Scholarships - full or partially funded scholarships that provide important financial stability, enabling the recipient to focus on their academic studies and chart their path towards academic success.
• Faculty Hardship Fund that provides emergency financial interventions for students struggling to meet the basic costs of living associated with studying in London. Typical support required during the academic year includes assistance with food, underground fares for class attendance, textbooks, and laptop provision.
• Funding for social events enables students to participate in key events in the student calendar (eg, fresher events, student day trips, or the student Winter Ball). Financial need may exclude some students from these events which is not only stigmatising but also means that they miss out on a central part of student life.
• Funding for pro bono placements and study abroad opportunities, ensuring that students are not excluded from undertaking valuable professional experiences because of financial circumstances.  
• Funding for interview attire assisting students preparing for vacation placements, training contracts, and other professional opportunities.
