Dr Ewan Smith, together with Samuli Seppänen, authors a paper on non-intervention in international law.

In May, GCDC member Dr Ewan Smith published an article, together with Samuli Seppänen at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The paper critiques a new doctrine of non-intervention in international law. The Chinese government sometimes accuses other states of ‘interfering in its domestic affairs’. It claims this is a violation of international law. The same approach might be appealing to governments who wish to challenge foreign interference in liberal democratic processes. The article argues that this is the wrong approach. It will be carried in the July edition of the International and Comparative Law Quarterly.
