Public law and criminal law

Research in this area looks at substantive criminal law, criminal procedure and evidence, the criminal justice system, criminology and the philosophy and practice of punishment, criminological theory, doctrinal criminal law, the philosophy of criminal law, gender and criminal justice, race relations in prison, violent crime, national security, access to justice, personal taxation, estate planning, human rights law – domestic, regional and international, refugee law and Crown Court sentencing.

Research in this theme encompasses the work of the UCL Centre for Criminal Law, which addresses challenges posed by the development of international criminal law and its associated tribunal jurisdiction, as well as important issues occurring across national boundaries such as the growth in terrorism, organised crime and money-laundering.
