Research summary

My main research interest is rhetoric (persuasive writing and speaking) for lawyers.

Teaching summary

I convene and teach a module entitled "Modern Advocacy and Classical Rhetoric" on UCL's LLM programme. I have taught the module since 2010. I also give seminars on mooting to undergraduate and graduate students at UCL.

In addition to teaching at UCL, I provide training on persuasive writing and speaking to practising lawyers.

I have practised as a commercial barrister in London for over 20 years, both at the independent Bar and at Dentons, the international law firm. I am currently a door tenant at Outer Temple Chambers. I am a specialist in banking and finance disputes with particular expertise in derivatives mis-selling claims.

I hold an LLM from Harvard Law School (1991), where I was a Frank Knox Memorial Fellow, and an LLB (Hons) from the University of Edinburgh (1990).
