UCL Laws is marking 200 years of legal education in 2026 – an extraordinary moment for the Faculty, and an opportunity to reflect on a rich history that has led to our place today as one of the world’s leading law schools.
As part of the bicentennial celebrations, we have launched a UCL200 digital hub on the Faculty of Laws website. The hub brings together a growing collection of content celebrating the Faculty’s past, present and future, including:
- A new synopsis and timeline of the history of the Faculty, featuring newly digitised archive photographs and materials revealing key moments from our past
- Profiles of historic Laws alumni, notable figures, and UCL200 scholars – students and PhD researchers who have received financial support through the UCL200 scholarship programme
- Video interviews with influential figures connected with the Faculty, including former Deans and Heads of Department
- Our Laws UCL200 events programme (including a downloadable flyer featuring highlights for your diary in 2026)
- Information about the UCL Laws Alumni Weekend (8–10 October 2026) – we would love as many Laws alumni to join this weekend as possible, so please complete the 'register your interest' form if you'd like to attend
- A memory box where alumni and friends of the Faculty can share and submit their stories about and reflections on UCL Laws
- Laws UCL200 news stories
- Links to additional resources, including books and articles about the history and origins of UCL Laws
The UCL200 at Laws digital hub will continue to grow over the coming months with new profiles, video interviews, news stories and event details. Created as a lasting legacy, it will serve as an important resource for preserving and sharing the Faculty’s history for years to come.
“This exciting new digital hub will be the focal point for the Faculty’s bicentennial activity, whilst showcasing and making more widely known the pivotal role that the Faculty has played in the development of legal education in this country,” explained Professor Prince Saprai (Professor of Law and Deputy Dean for Strategy, UCL Laws), Laws’ UCL200 Faculty Champion. “The bicentennial is a fantastic opportunity to communicate and celebrate this story with the wider world.”
We invite you to celebrate this milestone with us – (re)connecting with the UCL Laws community through our UCL200 events programme, reflecting on the Faculty’s rich history through our new digital hub, and contributing to the Faculty’s impact for years ahead.
Being one of the inaugural recipients of the UCL200 Opportunity Scholarships and studying here during UCL’s bicentennial celebration feels deeply meaningful. I am proud to be part of a moment that celebrates such a rich history.
