On 11 March 2026, UCL’s Centre for Dispute Resolution hosted a public lecture by leading international mediator Bill Marsh titled “Can Mediation Deliver Justice? Lessons from Grenfell Tower and Bosnia.”
Addressing a full lecture theatre and a substantial international online audience, Bill Marsh drew on decades of experience mediating high stakes and highly sensitive disputes. His lecture examined the types of justice mediation can meaningfully provide—and the limits of what it can deliver—through reflections on cases including the Grenfell Tower fire and post conflict mediation in Bosnia. As mediation becomes increasingly embedded within the civil justice system, he set out a clear and timely assessment of its capacity to contribute to different conceptions of justice. His analysis offered critical insights for policymakers, practitioners, and scholars engaged in the evolving role of mediation in contemporary dispute resolution.
A full recording of the lecture is available on YouTube.
UCL’s Centre for Dispute Resolution gratefully acknowledges the Civil Mediation Council (CMC) for its ongoing collaboration and for proposing this lecture, following Bill Marsh’s highly regarded presentation on the same theme at the CMC’s November 2025 conference.
