UCL Laws staff recognised in the 2025 Education Awards

5 June 2025

Colleagues and students at UCL Laws have been recognised in the 2025 UCL Education Awards with several award wins and nominations.

A group of people stand on a stage, smiling and holding awards, with a screen behind them displaying "The Education Awards." The setting appears to be an indoor event or ceremony.

We’re delighted to share that several colleagues and students from UCL Laws were among this year’s UCL Education Award winners, announced at the ceremony on Wednesday 4 June 2025!

UCL Provost Education Awards

The Centre for Access to Justice (CAJ) team received a Provost Education Award in the category of Improving the Student Experience.

The team was recognised for implementing innovative processes and practices that significantly improve the student experience and support learning. Their work spans intensive casework, in-house skills training, and employability support.

As noted during the awards' presentation, "This year, 219 students have taken part across 29 pro bono projects. These experiences not only equip students with practical skills and confidence, but also prepare them to take on leadership roles in shaping the future of their profession and driving impactful change in society."

We are thrilled to have received a Provost’s Education Award for Improving the Student Experience. Our students are so inspiring, and it's a privilege to work with them and see their development. We are very grateful to the Faculty of Laws for its unwavering support of our work" says Rachel Knowles, Director of the Centre for Access to Justice

Student Choice Awards

Lynne Chave, Research Centre Manager at the UCL Institute of Brand and Innovation Law, received a Student Choice Award in the Amazing Support Staff category. This award allows students to thank a member of staff who isn’t necessarily in a teaching role but still makes a huge difference to their learning through their help, patience and care.

Lynne was recognised for her outstanding support of postgraduate research students in the Faculty of Laws. Students described her as "unbelievably kind, always available to bounce ideas off or tackle a student issue" and praised her for going "far above and beyond what is expected"

Until I received this nomination, I hadn’t really thought of my role as one engaged in ‘student support’. But on reflection, we’ve worked hard at IBIL to involve the Faculty’s students, especially our amazing IBIL Scholarship PhD researchers, in the Centre’s activities, while also supporting their own IP-related initiatives. It’s very heartening that these efforts have been recognised and appreciated, and incredibly touching that they took the time and trouble to nominate me for this Award", said Lynne Chave.

Innovating

Special congratulations to Professor Kimberley Trapp, Dr Megan Donaldson, Céline Chausse, and Gal Cohen, who received an Honourable Commendation in the ‘Innovating’ category, a fantastic recognition of their impactful collaborative work.

Academic Rep of the Year Awards

UCL Faculty of Laws Academic Reps Yasmin Hanan, Zoe Haramis, and David Metin were also recognised for their excellent work advocating on behalf of students. As a team, they have been outstanding in gathering student feedback, improving resources, and fostering inclusivity within the LLM programme.
