In addition to being awarded the St Martin’s Medal by the Czech Competition Authority and the Czech Government, Professor Lianos’ research on digital ecosystems has recently been cited in various competition law and policy reforms.

Professor Ioannis Lianos has been named the 2024 recipient of the prestigious St. Martin's Medal for excellence in competition law enforcement and research. The award, presented by the Czech Competition Authority and the Czech Government, was bestowed during the Authority's annual conference on 7 November 2024.

The St. Martin's Medal recognizes outstanding contributions from leading competition law enforcers and scholars. Upon receiving the honour, Professor Lianos expressed his gratitude: "I am deeply honoured by the Czech authority and government's decision to award me the St. Martin's Medal for my contribution to competition law enforcement, particularly as this recognition comes from one of Europe's most active competition authorities. It is especially meaningful to follow last year's recipient, Margrethe Vestager, the former Vice-President of the European Commission and Competition Commissioner.”

In December 2024, Brazil's Ministry of Finance released its landmark report "Digital Platforms: Competition Aspects and Regulatory Recommendations for Brazil" proposing a new competition law framework designed to regulate digital ecosystems. The report draws extensively on Professor Ioannis Lianos' research on digital ecosystems, which appears to have significantly influenced the proposal's design and emphasis on ecosystem-based regulation. The report also incorporates references to Professor Lianos' groundbreaking work on the intersection of complexity economics and competition law, one of the first scholarly explorations of this field.

This recognition follows the European Commission's adoption of its new Market Definition Notice earlier in 2024, which notably includes a new chapter on ecosystems. The Notice similarly drew upon Professor Lianos' research on digital ecosystem regulation, reflecting the growing international influence of his work in shaping competition policy frameworks.
