14 February 2025

UCL Laws LLM students participated in the WCA's Arbitration Competition for UK Law Students 2025, winning the Best Team award.

Students winning Best Team Prize

UCL Laws is proud to celebrate its participation in the prestigious Worshipful Company of Arbitrators (WCA) Arbitration Competition 2025. Held from January 17-19, this rigorous three-day event brought together 18 teams from across the UK, challenging law students, trainees, and pupils to showcase their advocacy skills in a simulated arbitration setting.

Representing UCL were Gulsum Qane (LLM) and Nora Szoke (LLM), who were assigned to advocate for the respondent in a complex construction dispute over a chemical plant. With just under two weeks to prepare, the team delved into the evidence bundle and devised a strategic preparation plan, dividing workloads efficiently. Their unwavering teamwork and strategic execution earned them recognition and praise from both fellow competitors and WCA mentors.

A true highlight of the weekend was UCL being voted ‘Best Team’ by participants—an incredible recognition of their dedication, adaptability, and professionalism. The competition provided an invaluable opportunity to develop advocacy, problem-solving, and teamwork skills, all essential for a future in arbitration.

Building on this success, UCL looks forward to future participation and strongly encourages students with a keen interest in arbitration to get involved. Congratulations to Gulsum and Nora for their outstanding performance and for proudly representing UCL on this esteemed platform.
