Honorary Prof Dean Spielmann appointed as Advocate General to Court of Justice of the European Union

Dean Spielmann, Honorary Professor at UCL Laws and leading human rights judge, has been appointed as Advocate General of the Court of Justice.

The Court of Justice has announced the appointment of Honorary Professor Dean Spielmann as Advocate General of the Court of Justice for the period from 7 October 2024 to 6 October 2030, along with Mr Andrea Biondi and Mr Rimvydas Norkus.
Professor Spielmann is a leading human rights lawyer. He was elected as a Judge at the European Court of Human Rights in 2004, where he successively became Section President in 2011, Vice-President in 2012, then President between 2012 and 2015.
He was appointed to Honorary Professor at UCL Laws in 2013 and was awarded an honorary LLD in 2016.
