Professor Sir Jonathan Montgomery interviewed on TalkRadio about costs of clinical negligence

The interview follows a BBC report which states that NHS England is paying £4.3 billion in legal fees to settle outstanding clinical negligence claims.

Professor Sir Jonathan Montgomery, Professor of Healthcare Law at UCL Laws, was interviewed on The Julia Hartley-Brewer Breakfast Show on Tuesday 21st January.

Professor Montgomery commented on the nature of the clinical negligence claims lodged by patients, including what the payments are used for – such as maternity claims and ongoing patient support.

He also discussed the legislation set out by the government to ensure patient safety through independent investigations which aim to avoid apportioning blame or liability on healthcare professionals, via the Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch.
