9 May 2019
The international law lecture at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile is in collaboration with the Faculty of Law of Universidad de Chile.
Dr Danae Azaria, Associate Professor at UCL Laws, and Senior Fellow at the ‘KFG – The International Rule of Law’ (Humboldt University Berlin), has been invited to give a lecture on international law at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile in collaboration with the Faculty of Law of Universidad de Chile, the country’s oldest and most prestigious law faculty, on 14 May 2019.
Her lecture is based on Dr Azaria’s latest research, and is entitled ‘Codification by Interpretation: The International Law Commission as an Interpreter of International Law’. It will explore the interpretative function of the International Law Commission, focusing on its work on the law of treaties subsequent to the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties. It will argue that this interpretative paradigm is part of the International Law Commission’s goal to strengthen international law by providing certainty, clarity and predictability.
