UCL Laws’ Professor Maria Lee and Professor Eloise Scotford have co-authored a paper entitled ‘Environmental Principles after Brexit: the draft Environment (Principles and Governance) Bill (Working Paper)’.

Professor Lee and Professor Scotford argue that provisions in the government’s draft Environment Bill would not maintain the legal status of environmental principles as they currently apply through EU law; and that the bill “undermines or misconstrues key features” of the principles.

The paper asserts that “significant changes need to be made to the draft Bill, so that environmental principles have a meaningful legal and systemic role” after Brexit.
